But…..I’m NOT a salesperson!

You think? Oh, but you ARE!!

I was in a restaurant with my husband one night. The server was at the table next to us telling those customers that she used to be in sales, but she just “wasn’t cut out for it”. Know what she was doing? She was telling the customer all about the different entrees, what her favorite dish was, etc. She was a salesperson for the restaurant, and I know she was paid to do that. I thought about it and said to my husband, “You know, she IS a salesperson! She just don’t realize it!”

We are all salespeople in some form or another, although we may not be in the “sales” business per se. I work in the office at a plumbing company. Customers call me all the time and ask the best brand of faucets, toilets, disposals, etc. I tell them what I personally use and/or what brands we use as a company. I just sold that customer on that particular brand.

Think about this:

You and your significant other plan a date to go to the hottest new movie that just came out. It is such a great movie! You immediately call your sister and tell her how good it was, that she just HAS to see it!! What have you done? You’ve sold at least two tickets for that movie, possibly more.

A new cleaning product by The Clean Machine comes out that claims that it can remove gum from clothing with just a squirt. You rush out to buy it. Oh My Gosh! It does actually work!! You pick up the phone to call your best friend and tell her. Hmmmm….. sold another product for The Clean Machine, but, did you receive any commission from it? NOPE!

And there are so many more examples that I’m sure you could think of.

So the next time you start to say you’re not a salesperson, think about what you are saying.
